We Take Gluten Free Very Seriously!
Our customers often
ask us how we got started with the whole gluten free thing. Well, it
all began with a family friend’s mom who has celiac. We sympathized
with her situation of not being able to eat certain foods, and wanted
her to be able to enjoy our good food along with her family. We
provided gluten free pasta for her. Then, other customers came in
asking us if we had any gluten free pasta. We began making other gluten
free items available, like gluten free pizza. From there, we continued
to expand our gluten free menu, offering appetizers, entrees,
strombolis, calzones, and scrumptious desserts. (http://www.glutenfreewow/Menu.html) Word of mouth spread, and we got more and more customers wanting to taste our delicious gluten free food.
John
– who is always trying new things and expanding his culinary skills –
keeps coming up with more and more delectable gluten free items. He
works at perfecting his recipes because, as a fine chef, he isn’t
satisfied with his creations until the taste is just right!
We
have invested time, expense, effort, and care in ensuring that our
gluten free food preparation is safe and secure – becoming GREAT
(Gluten-Free Resource Education and Awareness Training) certified;
purchasing additional equipment (such as separate deep fryers to make
items like chicken and veal parmigiana, fried calamari, french fries,
etc.) that is specifically dedicated for our gluten free food
preparation; using rice flour (although it’s more costly) in all of our
food prep areas to avoid any contamination by wheat flour particles;
and other protective measures.
All of our customers rave about
our food. And, the ones who have celiac are happy to be able to enjoy
foods that they otherwise would have had to cut out of their diet. Some
of them have shared that they are thrilled to be eating foods that they
haven’t had in many years. Even people that don’t have celiac, who have
tried our gluten free food, say that they can not tell the difference
in taste and they prefer it because they know that it is healthier for
them.
We offer our gluten free customers with many choices to
meet their gluten free needs – a huge in-house restaurant menu, an
equally large take-out menu, catering, as well as our most recent
expansion in our gluten free area – our “Gluten Free Market”, where we
sell our own pre-prepared frozen and packaged food items, available to
go.
Grandma's Italian Restaurant & Pizzaria
986 Easton Road, Horsham, PA
John
V is a talented chef who has an incredible flair for making anything
taste great. He is a native of New York, who inherited his gift for
preparing delicious food from his grandmother, mother, and his aunts.
They each passed on their own style of cooking to him. Their
traditional old world quality was passed down from generation to
generation.
He began his culinary career at a young age,
working at an old family friend's pizza restaurant, L&B Spumoni Gardens, in
Brooklyn, N.Y. where he was taught by one of the originals, Bobo himself. In 1980, at age 18, he opened his first food
establishment, a luncheonette, serving lunch and dinner. Then, in 1984,
he opened his first Pizza Cafe, Miami Slice, which became very
successful. Six years later, he added Michael’s Café, where fine pastas
and dinner entrees were added to the already great menu.
John’s
Pizza Café was another addition which was successfully handed down to
family members before making the latest move. In 2005, he relocated to
Pennsylvania and opened Grandma’s Grotto, an Italian restaurant
providing 120 seats, which offers dine-in, catering, carry-out, and
delivery.
John's interest in preparing gluten-free food started
with a few customer requests. In no time, he discovered that many
people seek gluten-free eating as a healthier lifestyle, and not just
as something medically recommended. As a result, in addition to his
regular menu, he now offers an all-inclusive gluten-free menu filled
with Italian specialties that satisfy diners across Montgomery and
Bucks counties. People are traveling from all over as a result from
word of mouth.
The latest accommodation these diners can enjoy
is from his recently opened "Gluten-Free Shop". It is a little store
housed right in the restaurant, where they can select from
already-prepared, frozen, gluten-free entrees, appetizers, desserts,
bakery items, strombolis, pizzas, and much more. This provides
gluten-free patrons with the ability to enjoy a bit of John's delicious
gluten-free food in the comfort of their own homes.
